DISEC
Disarmament & International Security Committee
The Disarmament and International Security Committee (DISEC) is the First Committee of the United Nations General Assembly and one of the six main organs of the United Nations. Its purpose, as outlined under Chapter IV of the United Nations Charter, is to uphold general principles of cooperation in the maintenance of international peace. More specifically, DISEC oversees international disarmament, the regulation of arms, and any other issues regarding international security.
DISEC cannot enforce any legally binding decisions, nor can it directly intervene in situations of conflict; therefore, member states must collaborate closely in order to draft peace treaties, establish cooperative arrangements, and make recommendations to solve the issues on its agenda. As DISEC is open to all 193 member states of the UN, it is a crucial body in dealing with international issues.
DISEC is a beginner committee that offers the traditional Model UN experience for all delegates alike.

Carl Hu — Director
A Grade 10 student at St. George’s School, Carl is honoured to serve as the Director of the Disarmament and International Security Committee (DISEC) at CAIMUN 2025. Ever since stepping foot into the intimidating committee room at his first conference in Grade 8, Carl has been captivated by the competitive but collaborative environment of Model UN. From getting lost between the North and South Towers of Sheraton Wall Centre to furiously drawing war plans during chaotic crises, Carl is grateful for the friendships and memories that MUN has given him. Outside of the enriching world of Model UN, Carl can often be found binge-watching shows on Netflix, worrying about debate, or scrolling endlessly on his phone. Carl hopes to create an unforgettable experience and wishes everyone the best of luck in their preparation for CAIMUN 2025!
Sophia Chiu — Chair
As a Grade 11 student at York House School, Sophia is ecstatic to serve as the Chair of DISEC. From nearly falling asleep during her first midnight crisis to squishing into the elevators at every conference, Sophia has developed a strong passion for MUN and hopes all delegates will too. Outside of the committee room, Sophia can be found on the tennis court, tanning in any UV, or trying to get through all of the seasons of Suits. Sophia looks forward to an exciting and productive conference, and is eager to see the creativity and commitment of each delegate. She wishes everyone the best of luck and hopes this will be an unforgettable iteration of CAIMUN.
Madeline Kim — Assistant Director
Heading into her final year at École Salish Secondary, Madeline is ecstatic to be serving as the Assistant Director of DISEC at CAIMUN 2025. Since starting her initial MUN journey in ninth grade, she has grown to love the passionate and fierce debate in each committee she attends. Although she was nervous to speak in front of 100 delegates at her very first conference, her confidence and love of avid discourse for political affairs has thrived. She currently co-leads the Model United Nations club at her school and is going on 3 years of teaching students how to debate, speak, and collaborate in conferences. Outside of Model UN, you can find Madeline re-watching Gilmore Girls for the hundredth time, learning a variety of intricate songs to play on her guitar, or going on several scenic walks around her neighbourhood with her two dogs. Madeline cannot wait to meet everyone and wishes a phenomenal experience to all those attending CAIMUN 2025!
