G20
Group of Twenty
Comprising 19 nations and the European Union, the Group of Twenty (G20) is an international economic forum established in 1999—holding its first summit at a time of global economic instability. Ever since said summit in Berlin, the G20 has strived to create unilateral commitments to address economic emergencies such as the 2008 financial crisis and the COVID-19 recession of 2020. The G20 has also taken measures to combat financial crimes, promote international trade, and invest in emerging economies in the developing world.
As the G20 represents around 85% of the world’s gross domestic product and two-thirds of the global population, the organization’s actions have significantly impacted the global economic order. The G20 has expanded its agenda to include issues surrounding the environment, gender equality, and human development. They have previously responded to geopolitical crises like the Russian invasion of Crimea and the Syrian Civil War.
As one of CAIMUN’s hybrid committees, the G20’s first topic follows the regular rules of procedure while the second topic follows the crisis rules of procedure. The G20 is also designated as an advanced committee, most suitable for delegates with extensive experience and debate knowledge.

Eva Wang — Director
Eva Wang is ecstatic to have the opportunity to serve as the Director of the Group of Twenty (G20). Currently a Grade 11 student attending West Point Grey Academy, she has grown to appreciate the engaging collaboration and diplomatic debates of the Model UN world. In her spare time, she can often be found unsuccessfully trying to catch up on sleep, binge-watching comfort TV shows, and deficiently playing basketball with her friends. Eva looks forward to witnessing compelling discussions and is excited to see the solutions delegates find. She hopes that all delegates will enjoy their time at CAIMUN 2024 and that this experience will reveal to them the many things MUN has to offer.
Harry Jiang — Chair
A Senior at Mount Douglas Secondary School, Harry is delighted to serve as the Chair of the Group of Twenty at CAIMUN 2024. Ever since his unanticipated discovery of Model UN, Harry has found himself captivated by the lively debates and the welcoming community of Model UN. MUN has provided Harry with the unique opportunity to debate intricate international issues and create meaningful and unforgettable memories. Outside of the committee room, Harry can be found passionately practising the violin, tirelessly writing algorithms for his programming projects, hopelessly trying to learn the pronunciation of basic French vocabulary and binge-reading a terrifying amount of manga. In his final year of Model UN, Harry hopes to forge a stimulating and unforgettable experience for all delegates and wishes them the best of luck at CAIMUN.
Mia Rafii — Assistant Director
A Grade 11 student at Crofton House School, Mia is honoured to serve as the Assistant Director of the Group of 20 at CAIMUN 2024. Ever since her first Model UN conference in an overwhelmingly large General Assembly, Mia has developed a distinct passion for the lively debate and valuable collaboration that MUN fosters. From shaky speeches to chaotic crises, MUN cultivates the colourful conversations Mia has grown to cherish. Outside the committee room, Mia is passionate about all things caffeinated and can be found taking naps in obscure locations. Mia’s favourite activities include cuddling her cat, playing wildly competitive spike ball, and sleeping in past noon. Mia is confident that CAIMUN 2024 will be an unforgettable conference and looks forward to a weekend of fierce debate!
