USS
United States Senate
Senate Select Committee on Intelligence
Established in 1789 by the U.S. Constitution, the United States Senate is the upper house of the U.S. federal bicameral legislature: the United States Congress. As the federal legislature, Congress maintains the ability to pass federal laws. At CAIMUN, in the absence of the lower house and the executive branch, the Senate will act as the defacto sole legislative authority.
The U.S. Senate is an intermediate committee designed for delegates with experience and a keen interest for United States politics. At CAIMUN, the U.S. Senate will operate not under the Regular Rules of Procedure, but under the Standing Rules of the Senate instead. Any Position Papers accepted at CAIMUN, including regular position papers, diplomatic cables, and press releases, are accepted in the U.S. Senate. The U.S. Senate will follow the standard format of resolution papers in the style of “Bills” as noted in the CAIMUN resolution paper guide available in the rules of procedure guide. Please see the Standing Rules of the Senate guide for full details on the Senate’s rules of procedure, position paper, and bill-writing guidelines.
Please send all inquiries via senate@caimun.ca. Position papers must also be submitted to this email.

Michael Weng — President
A senior at Steveston-London Secondary School, Michael is excited to serve as the President (Director) of the SSCI at this year's iteration of CAIMUN. Since being forced into this activity three years ago, he has been captivated by the intense debate, out-of-left-field solutions, and late-night shenanigans at the Sheraton Wall Centre. Outside of Model UN, Michael enjoys binge watching random series he stumbles across on Youtube Shorts, trying out different foods across Metro Vancouver, and expanding his music taste on Spotify. Michael eagerly anticipates a weekend filled with true American patriotism and wishes all delegates the best of luck.
Amitis Ghahremani — Secretary
As a senior at Sentinel Secondary School, Amitis is honoured to serve as the Secretary (Chair) of the United States Senate Select Committee on Intelligence at CAIMUN 2025. Although she originally joined Model UN at her friend’s request, she has since been enthralled by the intense debates and international politics. Above all, Amitis cherishes the unforgettable memories and lifelong friendships she has formed over the years. Outside of the conference room, she can be found reading books, listening to music, tinkering with various coffee recipes, and attempting (yet failing) to bake a perfect batch of macarons. She eagerly anticipates an exciting weekend of debate and politics. Amitis looks forward to meeting all of you and truly hopes that CAIMUN 2025 will be an amazing experience for delegates.
Shaylen Bhushan — Clerk
An eleventh-grader at Burnaby North Secondary, Shaylen has cultivated a passion for politics and diplomacy through MUN. He is exuberant to serve as the Clerk (Assistant Director) for the United States Senate. From the first time he stumbled through his school’s clubs day and found the Model UN club to the now-fiery speeches, rigorous papers, and sleepless nights, MUN has sparked the best of friendships for Shaylen. Outside of committee, he can be found spending questionable amounts of time playing video games with friends, drumming to rock music with his band, and barreling down ski runs. Shaylen is excited to provide delegates with a smooth and memorable experience in such a topical and important committee. He looks forward to the core memories CAIMUN 2025 will create for him and all the other delegates.
